What a major service includes
A Range Rover major service is a broader scheduled-maintenance visit. It normally combines the routine oil-service work with additional filters, fluids or ignition items that are confirmed as due for the exact vehicle. The correct list depends on the model, model year, engine, drivetrain, mileage, VIN, service history and dashboard information.
The phrase “major service” does not describe one universal package. An Evoque diesel, a Range Rover Sport petrol model and a plug-in hybrid can have different service items even when their mileages look similar. A useful quotation therefore names every included item instead of relying on the package title.
Start with the vehicle
A proper major-service scope starts with identification, not a generic checklist. The registration or VIN helps confirm the model year, engine and drivetrain. The previous invoices then show which scheduled items were actually completed and which may still be outstanding.
Range Rover UAE currently states that scheduled servicing is required every 13,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. The service interval tells you when to review maintenance; it does not prove that every vehicle needs the same parts at that visit. Dashboard reminders, VIN-specific owner information and the recorded history still matter. A reminder reset is not evidence that the maintenance was completed. The invoice should record the oil specification, parts fitted and any additional scheduled work.

Items replaced only when due
Oil and the oil filter are usually the starting point, but a major service becomes broader when other scheduled items are due. Depending on the vehicle, that can include the engine-air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, spark plugs or a specified fluid service.
These items should not be added automatically. Replacing spark plugs on an engine that does not use them, changing a driveline fluid without confirming the application, or quoting every available filter without checking the record turns a maintenance plan into guesswork.
Inspection is not replacement
A major service is a good opportunity to inspect wear items, but an observation is not automatically a repair decision. Brake-pad thickness, disc condition, tyre wear, leaks, suspension movement and belt condition should be reported clearly. If repair is recommended, the owner should be told what was found, how urgent it is and whether further testing is needed.
A visual check can identify visible wear or leakage. It cannot, by itself, confirm the internal condition of a transmission, prove why a warning light appeared or identify the cause of an intermittent electrical fault.
Major service is not repair
Scheduled maintenance and fault diagnosis solve different problems. A major service renews items that are due and records the vehicle’s condition. It does not automatically diagnose an engine warning, suspension message, overheating concern, oil leak, vibration or poor braking.
If the vehicle has a warning message or a change in how it drives, report it when booking. The workshop can then separate the maintenance scope from the diagnostic work. This keeps the quotation clear and prevents a routine service from being presented as a cure for an untested fault.
Major versus minor service
A minor service is the more focused routine visit. A major service covers the routine work plus additional scheduled items that are verified as due. Know when it is due
Use three sources together: the dashboard service information, the vehicle-specific maintenance information and the recorded history. Mileage alone can miss time-based items. A dashboard reminder alone may not reveal work completed elsewhere or work that was skipped.
If the records are incomplete, ask for a maintenance assessment rather than approving the largest available package. The assessment should identify overdue items, uncertain history and condition-based repairs as separate categories.
Check the quotation
Before approving a Range Rover major service, confirm the following in writing:
- The exact model, model year, engine and registration or VIN used to prepare the quotation.
- The engine-oil specification, quantity and oil-filter application.
- Every filter, spark plug or fluid that will be replaced and why it is due.
- The inspections included and whether measurements will be recorded.
- Any exclusions, separate diagnostic charges or repair recommendations.
- How the completed work will appear on the invoice and service history.
Two quotations with the same “major service” label may cover different work. Compare the itemised list, not only the package name.
